About the role
The Recruitment and Intake Navigator position at the American Job Center in Highland Park is responsible for recruiting, screening, and enrolling eligible youth into WIOA Youth programs, JMG and FCSYEP. The role also supports program participation and engagement, facilitates career-focused programming, integrates recruitment, career readiness, employment pathways, and soft skill development, and promotes symmetrical youth services at community events.
Responsibilities
- Provide workshops that teach communication, teamwork, time management, and conflict resolution.
- Provide hands-on training in digital literacy, resume building, and job search platforms.
- Recruit and coordinate partners and presenters to engage with program participants.
- Conduct orientations for youth service candidates that provide a detailed overview of all programs ongoing.
- Support both employers and participants in paid work experiences and internships.
- Promote SER Metro-Detroit Youth Services at community events, career and job fairs, and other events that align with agency programming and target audiences.
- Build and maintain relationships with community representatives, educational institutions, and other stakeholders.
- Inform participants of their program rights and responsibilities in a clear and supportive manner.
- Follow up with referral partners to ensure satisfaction.
- Report concerns to supervisor.
- Perform other duties as assigned to support the team.
Qualifications
- Associate degree preferred; high school diploma or GED certificate required.
- Three years of customer service, sales, and/or experience in outreach, social services, and recruitment.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills to effectively engage with applicants, partners, and stakeholders.
- Comfort with conducting orientations and representing the organization at events.
- Knowledge of or ability to learn data tracking and management information systems.
- Excellent writing and editing skills in English, as well as excellent verbal and written communication skills and attention to detail.
- Interpersonal skills are necessary to effectively communicate with staff, participants, and partner agencies.
- Ability to build and maintain relationships with diverse groups, showing empathy and respect.
- Efficiently manage multiple tasks, maintain detailed records, and ensure compliance with policies.
- Demonstrate self-motivation, initiative, and persistence, as well as a background in communications/campaign strategy.
- Interpersonal skills necessary to effectively communicate with staff, participants, and partner agencies.
- Strong prioritizing, organization, and project management skills.
- Must possess a valid Michigan driver's license and have access to reliable transportation to travel to off-site locations/events.
- Willing to acquire a chauffeur's license within 30 days of employment.
- Prepared to operate the company van and transport participants to community outreach/programming events.
- Familiar with the Outer-Wayne youth landscape and able to build and maintain a network.
