Job Duties & Skills Required
- Assessing for resident leisure interests, abilities and skills, life history, planning adaptations and support techniques to help residents achieve their recreation, leisure, and social engagement needs
- Implementation of therapeutic programming
- Documentation and evaluation of services provided
- Communicating with resident's family members and coordinating special events with other departments
Skills & Requirements
- Education- Bachelor’s degree in Recreation Therapy or related field required. Education or training in geriatrics, including dementia, preferred.
- Experience- Experience in therapeutic recreation in an internship, field experience, volunteering, and or work with older adults or special needs populations. For those working in the state of Nebraska, Completion of Nebraska-certified “Activity Coordinator” course or certified therapeutic recreation specialist within 6 months of hire. Equivalent years of education may substitute for experience requirement. For those working in the state of Iowa, must be a Certified Therapeutic Recreation Specialist or willing to obtain the CTRS within 6 months of hire.
- Other Requirements – Must have medical clearance for communicable diseases and up-to-date immunizations before having direct participant contact. Must have a valid driver’s license, proof of insurance and have means of transportation. Basic Life Support (BLS) Skills i.e. Health Care Level Cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR); Automated External Defibrillator (AED); First Aide (FA).
