Recreational Therapist

About the role

We are seeking a qualified Recreational Therapist to develop and implement therapeutic recreational programs in a correctional or youth facility setting.

Responsibilities

• Assess individual needs and create personalized treatment plans focused on social skills, leisure activities, and reentry preparation.
• Organize and lead diverse recreational activities such as sports, arts, music, and outdoor events.
• Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to ensure coordinated patient care.
• Monitor, document progress, and adjust activities to meet diverse abilities and needs.
• Provide guidance and motivation to promote active participation and educate patients and families on therapeutic benefits.
• Stay current with best practices and trends in recreational therapy.

Requirements

• Minimum of 12 months of recent, relevant therapy experience (excluding internships).
• Bachelor’s or master’s degree in Recreation Therapy, Therapeutic Recreation, or a related field from an accredited institution.
• Proficiency in oral and written English.
• Full, unrestricted California license to practice.
