Parkwood Behavioral Health System, a UHS facility, provides behavioral health and chemical dependency services to the Mid-South region and has been in operation since 1987. Located in Desoto County, Mississippi—approximately 7 miles south of Memphis—we offer a full continuum of care, including inpatient acute and residential care, partial hospitalization, and intensive outpatient programs. Our 148-bed facility serves adults, adolescents, and children, with a focus on compassionate, high-quality care tailored to individual needs.
About the Role
The Recreation Therapist (PRN) assesses patients' leisure and recreational development needs, delivers age- and developmentally appropriate therapy groups, and establishes behavioral treatment goals aligned with Parkwood Behavioral Health System’s philosophy and objectives.
Responsibilities
- Assess patients' leisure and recreational development needs.
- Provide age- and developmentally appropriate therapy groups.
- Establish behavioral treatment goals consistent with facility objectives.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Recreation Therapy or another human services field.
- One year of prior psychiatric experience preferred.
- Certified Therapeutic Recreation Specialist (CTRS) preferred.
- Knowledge of individual, group, and family therapy theory and practice.
- Proficiency in group leadership, age-specific growth and development, and crisis/behavior management.
