Recreation Therapist

About the role

The Recreation Therapist plans, organizes, and supervises recreational activities to promote healthy leisure, socialization, and skill development for youth.

Responsibilities

• Develops and implements diverse programs including arts, sports, music, and community trips aligned with treatment plans.
• Supervises recreation facilities to ensure safety, performs maintenance, and manages risk.
• Documents progress, participates in treatment team meetings, and provides feedback on service plans.
• Supervises activities for up to three youth, completing reports and ensuring a secure environment.
• Affords assistance in special event planning and maintains equipment safety.

Requirements

• Relevant Bachelor’s degree
• Youth recreation experience
• CPR certification
• Valid NYS driver’s license

Qualifications

• Knowledge of team building, conflict resolution, and de-escalation techniques is essential.

Skills

• Effective communication and interpersonal skills
• Ability to manage multiple tasks and prioritize responsibilities
• Strong organizational and time management skills
