Assesses and identifies deficits in a patient’s ability to perform recreational and social activities. Develops individualized treatment plans with patient-centered goals to strengthen recreational, social, emotional, physical, and communication skills.
Responsibilities
- Performs patient evaluations by obtaining history and conducting relevant systems reviews to gather data.
- Establishes an individualized plan of care and selects treatment techniques addressing specific impairments identified in the evaluation, in accordance with physician orders.
- Conducts ongoing reassessment of the patient and their response to treatment.
- Initiates and manages the discharge plan beginning at the first visit and continuing throughout treatment.
- Supervises and delegates to ancillary staff and students consistent with state laws and department policy.
- Completes legible, accurate, and clear documentation within established timeframes, adhering to department policy, accreditation requirements, and insurance regulations.
- Communicates with patients, families, caregivers, and healthcare team members using AIDET to promote maximum benefit of care.
- Assesses educational needs of the patient, family, caregiver, or significant other and provides education to meet those needs.
- Participates in professional growth and development through educational programs, in-service meetings, workshops, and current literature.
- Actively participates in quality improvement activities.
- Provides a safe environment for patients, visitors, and staff, complying with approved safety standards.
- Functions within the scope of practice as defined by the state’s practice act.
- Performs other related duties as required and directed.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in therapeutic recreation.
- Current certification by the National Council for Therapeutic Recreation Certification Board as a Therapeutic Recreation Specialist.
- Valid state driver’s license with a driver’s record approved by the medical center.
- BLS certification.
Qualifications
Preferred: One year of clinical experience as a recreational therapist.
Schedule
Per Diem. Varied daily work times. Weekends required.
