Recreation Supervisor - Part-Time, Alpha - $30,000/year USD
About the role
Alpha is opening new campuses all over America because their students love school, learn valuable life skills, and run laps around their peers academically. This is a clearly bounded, on-site role supervising high school students during independent project work — closer to recreation and facility supervision than to a classroom job. You will circulate, enforce safety and behavior standards, close the downtown Austin campus, and proctor exams. There is no lesson planning, tutoring, grading, or work to take home. A quiet afternoon is successful when every student is accounted for, every exam starts on time, and the campus is secured correctly without another adult stepping in.
Responsibilities
- Ensure student safety during afternoon project work sessions
- Monitor students as they work on ambitious masterpiece projects
- Close and secure the school facility each evening
- Serve as a proctor for student exams scheduled during afternoon hours
What you won't be doing
- Tutoring or providing academic assistance
- Planning activities or entertainment
- Direct project supervision or guidance
- Administrative work beyond basic safety monitoring
Requirements
- At least 18 years old, legally authorized to work in the United States without current or future visa sponsorship, and able to work on-site in downtown Austin
- Available for one complete fixed schedule: Monday–Friday 4–7 PM plus Saturday 12–4 PM, or Monday–Thursday 4–8 PM plus Saturday 12–4 PM
- Able to commit to the full schedule for at least one school semester
- Experience supervising groups of children or teenagers in a structured setting, with clear examples of the ages and group sizes you supported
- Experience independently opening, closing, or securing a facility or shift, plus a concrete example of personally handling a behavior or safety situation
Nice-to-have
- Experience as a test/exam proctor is a plus, but not required
