Recreation Specialist: Part-Time Lifeguard
We are excited to have you consider joining our team at the Carl D Perkins Job Corps Center. As a Recreation Specialist, you will play a key role in creating engaging and educational experiences for our students.
About the role
The Recreation Specialist is responsible for the conduct and instruction of specific recreation activities or several closely related activities at the Job Corps Center. You will serve as an instructor, maintain equipment, and assist in planning and conducting various programs.
Responsibilities
- Direct and non-professional volunteers assisting in the instructional phase of the specified activity.
- Serve as an instructor in a specialty field of recreation as scheduled.
- Explain and demonstrate the uses of supplies and equipment, and the techniques and procedures used in the activity sessions.
- Maintain equipment and supplies necessary for classes and/or instruction.
- Exercise professional judgment and responsibility in the conduct of the specialty activities.
- Requisition necessary materials and supplies.
- Plan and conduct field trips.
- Train and supervise assigned staff and volunteers in the activities and related services.
- Use computer applications such as spreadsheets, word processing, calendar, e-mail, and database software in performing work assignments.
- Keep records of recreational activities.
- Maintain discipline, cleanliness, and inventory control in assigned areas.
- Post schedules of monthly activities and special events.
- Submit a schedule of special activities for the upcoming month to supervisor on the last Wednesday of each month.
- Submit a list of off-center trips for the upcoming month’s calendar.
- Maintain a stocked first aid kit in assigned area.
- Assist in recruitment of volunteers and supervise and give direction to any volunteer personnel assigned to the recreation area.
- Project a positive image and participation programs.
- Chaperone and assist with necessary trips.
- Submit time sheets and other reports timely and according to center policy.
- Aid in and train student leaders according to center policy.
- Follow CDSS plan and Standards of Conduct system.
- Comply with all DOL guidelines, OFCCP regulations, Job Corps notices and bulletins, and Center policies and procedures.
- Maintain good housekeeping in all areas and comply with safety practices.
- Model, mentor, monitor appropriate Career Success Standards.
- Help students become more employable through continuous reinforcement.
- Participate in PRH mandated staff training.
Requirements
- Associate of Arts Degree, preferably in a related field.
- Valid state driver’s license with CDL.
- Life guard certificate preferred.
Qualifications and Experience
