RECREATION SPECIALIST II LEAD - Campground Operations - Seasonal - Range 8 / AMEA

Job Information

Open to the general public and any current Municipal employee. These positions are represented by the Anchorage Municipal Employee Association (AMEA) and are subject to the provisions of the current agreement between the Municipality of Anchorage and the AMEA.

Hours vary; Monday through Sunday; between 7:00 a.m. and 11:00 p.m.

8400 Starview Drive
These seasonal positions will end approximately six (6) months after date of hire.

Example of Duties

• Under supervision, the Recreation Specialist II position leads entry level staff that is responsible for delivering parks and recreation activities and operating parks and recreation facilities in the Anchorage Bowl.
• Makes sure participants are monitored and supervised, organizes and directs activities, cleans facilities and grounds, and provides direction.
• Works independently and proactively within the department's established policies and procedures to perform as an entry-level lead.
• Provides safe recreation and learning environments.
• Provides excellent customer service in-person, via phone, and via email.
• Schedules and provides routine information concerning reservations of training and activities.
• Collaborates and maintains a database for reservations of facility, training, and activities.
• Will be assigned to one of the following facilities: Kincaid Outdoor Center, Lidia Selkregg Chalet and Golf Course, Centennial Campground.

Minimum Qualifications / Substitutions / Preferences

• High school diploma, GED, or equivalent and one (1) year experience in the program or activity under consideration.
• Prior experience in the use of recreational equipment is required.

Additional Important Information

• All applicants must possess or obtain:
• American Red Cross First Aid Certification, and American Red Cross Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) or equivalent at time of hire.
• A valid State of Alaska Driver’s License with an acceptable driving record at time of hire.
• Satisfactory completion of a national criminal background investigation (AS 12.62.160 and AS 12.62.400) at time of hire.
