RECREATION SPECIALIST I - Outdoor - Range 7 / AMEA

Job Information

Open to the general public and any current Municipal employee. These positions are represented by the Anchorage Municipal Employee Association (AMEA) and are subject to the provisions of the current agreement between the Municipality of Anchorage and the AMEA.

DEPARTMENT: Parks and Recreation

HOURS OF WORK: Schedule varies. Monday-Sunday, Hours 7:00am-11:00pm.

LOCATION(S): 8400 Star View Dr. - These are seasonal, positions (working 32 hours per week), and will end approximately six (6) months after date of hire.

Employees who are initially hired for any Seasonal position shall be placed at Step 3, and advancement from the entrance step to the maximum step within a pay grade shall be by successive steps.

Remote work schedule opportunities (telecommuting) may be considered after successful completion of probation, at the discretion of management and with the approval of the department head. Not all positions are eligible for remote work (telecommuting) per P&P 40-40.

Example of Duties

• Under supervision provide leadership and functional supervision to recreation and volunteer participants;
• lead and organize daily program and facility activities and perform related work as required.

Minimum Qualifications / Substitutions / Preferences

• High school diploma, GED, or equivalent and three (3) months experience leading, directing, supervising, coaching, or teaching children and/or adults at a recreation facility, a childcare facility, a childcare program, camps, educational institutions, therapeutic recreational programs, team, organized youth programs, or other similar programs.
• American Red Cross First Aid and American Red Cross Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) Certification or equivalent within 30 days of hire.
• Satisfactory completion of a national criminal background investigation (AS 12.62.160 and AS 12.62.400).
