Essential Functions
- Plan, prioritize, assign, supervise, review and participate in the work of staff responsible for scheduling and coordinating recreational services, activities, programs and special events.
- Establish schedules and methods for providing assigned recreation services, activities, programs and special events; identify resource needs; review needs with appropriate management staff; allocate resources accordingly.
- Participate in the development of policies and procedures; monitor work activities to ensure compliance with established policies and procedures; make recommendations for changes and improvements to existing standards and procedures.
- Recommend and assist in the implementation of goals and objectives; implement approved policies and procedures.
- Perform the more technical and complex administrative tasks of the work unit including purchasing appropriate supplies and materials relative to assigned program areas; establish contact with vendors and coordinate orders for needed supplies.
- May plan, coordinate, promote and schedule a variety of adult and youth adventure activities such as caving, cycling, mountain biking, rock climbing and skiing and a variety of adult and youth sports activities such as: softball, baseball, flag football, basketball, racquet sports, golf, and track & field; organize and schedule leagues, events, clinics, lessons, and tournaments.
- May locate and recruit athletic league officials for officiating at various sporting events; schedule officials for games and arrange for compensation.
- May review reports of game activities and events; ensure proper functioning and officiating of sports.
- May plan for and coordinate a variety of sports and adventure activities including soccer, basketball and football; schedule program activities, provide responsible instruction, conduct program and special event evaluations.
- Participate in the selection of assigned recreation services staff; provide or coordinate staff training; work with employees to correct deficiencies; implement corrective procedures.
- Participate in the preparation and administration of the assigned recreation services program budget; submit budget recommendations; monitor expenditures.
- Prepare analytical and statistical reports on operations and activities.
Supplemental Functions
- Attend and participate in professional group meetings; stay abreast of new trends and innovations within assigned recreation service program field.
- Perform related duties and responsibilities as required.
- Education and experience directly related to the minimum requirements below may be interchangeable on a year for year basis.
- Associate's degree from an accredited college or university in recreation;
- Four (4) years of recreation experience;
- To include one (1) year of supervisory or lead experience.
- Certification or membership in the New Mexico Recreation and Parks Association preferred.
- Possession of a valid New Mexico Driver's License or the ability to obtain by date of hire.
- Possession of a City Operator's Permit (COP) within 6 months from date of hire.
- May be required to work weekends, evenings, odd days off.
- Environmental: Indoor and outdoor recreational facilities; travel from site to site; exposure to heat.
- Physical: Essential and supplemental functions may require maintaining physical condition necessary for walking, standing or sitting for prolonged periods of time.
