Recreation Leader III- (Sports/Field Attendant) Seasonal/Temp
The City of Martinez Recreation Department is seeking a Sports/Field Attendant to join the Tavan and Joe DiMaggio Softball Complex. Under the supervision of the Recreation Supervisor, this position involves preparing the complex for games and tournaments, coordinating with temporary staff, maintaining field equipment, and supervising youth sports activities.
Responsibilities
- Prepares the Tavan and Joe DiMaggio Softball Complex for games and tournaments including nail dragging, watering, chalking lines, and setting bases.
- Schedules and manages temporary staff for field preparation, janitorial, and program operations.
- Pick up litter and debris, wash down picnic tables and walkways.
- Maintains field equipment and storage areas.
- Supervises and manages youth sports activities, including creating score cards, handling program complaints, protests, and player misconduct, maintaining standings, enforcing rules of the game, and assisting with city/rented league tournaments.
- Aids in the planning and implementation of other department programs, special events, or classes as assigned.
Qualifications
- Minimum Age: 18 years of age.
- Two years of paid or volunteer work as a group leader or lead worker in an organized, recreation or community service program with specific expertise or experience in program area of recruitment.
- Possession of or ability to obtain and maintain a California Class C Driver License.
- Experience working with children in a sport setting, day camp, child care program, youth program, or summer camp is desired.
- Appropriate clearances from background check/fingerprinting and documentation of a negative skin test for TB within the last two (2) years are required.
- Ability to obtain certification in American Red Cross Adult/Pediatric First Aid/CPR and AED or equivalent within 90 days of employment.
- Familiarity with softball and baseball, basic knowledge of the rules of softball and/or baseball, and field preparation experience are desirable.
- Physical fitness, ability to bend, kneel, lift fifty pounds, and knowledge of common sports, games, and recreation activities appropriate for all ages.
- Experience in youth supervision and leadership techniques, concepts of program risk management and safe work practices.
Desirable
- Familiarity with softball and baseball.
- Basic knowledge of the rules of softball and/or baseball.
- Field preparation experience.
- Physically fit, able to bend, kneel, lift fifty pounds.
- Familiarity with common sports, games, and recreation activities appropriate for all ages.
- Experience in youth supervision and leadership techniques.
- Knowledge of program risk management and safe work practices.
Supplemental Information
Training will be provided in City methods of setting and prepping fields. CPR/AED and First Aid training will also be provided.
Selection Process
A select number of the most experienced and best-qualified applicants will be invited to interview. Applicants will be evaluated based on their responses to the supplemental questionnaire.
Hours
This is a part-time position with maximum of 1000 hours per fiscal year. The position requires availability on Fridays from 5:30pm-9:30pm; Saturdays and Sundays from 6:00am to 10:30pm during softball season. Off-season responsibilities include field allocation, scheduling, billing, and other duties as assigned.
Summer Field Schedule
- Weekdays: 5:30pm-9:30pm
- Weekends (must be available both days): 6:00am-10:30pm
Non-Summer Field Schedule
- Weekdays (as needed): 5:30-9:30pm
- Weekends (as needed); 6:00am – 10:30pm
