Recreation Division Operations Manager

Location: Charlottesville, Virginia – Full-time, exempt position.

About the Role

The Recreation Operations Division Manager directs the planning, management, and operations of departmental functions overseeing recreation services at City Aquatic Facilities, Recreation Centers, Skatepark, and special events. Work is performed under the limited supervision of the Deputy Director of Recreation.

Pay

Preferred hiring range: $80,556.13 – $100,908.38 annually. Starting offer is based on applicable education, experience, and internal equity.

Qualifications

Candidates may qualify by demonstrating the required knowledge and skills through experience(s) other than formal education.

• Bachelor’s degree in recreation, public administration, business, or related field AND 6 years of progressively responsible experience in parks or recreation, including at least 2 years of supervisor or managerial experience.
• OR Associate degree in recreation, public administration, business, or related field AND 8 years of progressively responsible experience in parks or recreation, including at least 2 years of supervisor or managerial experience.
• OR High School diploma or GED AND 10 years of progressively responsible experience in parks or recreation, including at least 2 years of supervisor or managerial experience.
• OR An equivalent combination of education and experience.

Preferred: Certified Parks & Recreation Professional (CPRP) certification.

Requirements

• Certified Pool Operator (CPO) or Aquatics Facility Operator (AFO) required within 6 months of employment.
• Valid Virginia driver’s license and acceptable driving record according to city criteria.
• Must pass a pre-employment background check and drug screen.
