About the Role
This position provides patron services within assigned program or facility areas under general supervision. Duties vary by division and may include front-line services, facility maintenance, event logistics, and customer assistance.
Responsibilities
- Performs front-line, day-to-day services in assigned program areas (Events, Recreation Center/Fieldhouse, Discovery Park).
- Maintains order and control in program areas; monitors participants to ensure safety.
- Monitors and maintains facility appearance and functionality, including performing maintenance tasks and addressing safety concerns.
- Completes required documentation and assists with opening, closing, and inventory procedures.
- Responds to emergencies and assists in evacuations; completes incident reports as needed.
- Ensures compliance with Town and Departmental policies and procedures.
- Reports suspected abuse cases to supervisors and appropriate governing bodies.
- Assists in setting up and tearing down equipment (tables, chairs, A/V, sports, or recreation equipment) for events, programs, and rentals.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
Division-Specific Duties
- Events: Discusses activities and event schedules with patrons; oversees event logistics; facilitates games and activities.
- Recreation Center: Assists in daily maintenance of fitness equipment to ensure proper working order.
- Discovery Park: Monitors patrons while ice skating on the trail.
Requirements
- Must be at least sixteen (16) years of age.
- Experience performing general cleaning and facility maintenance tasks is preferred.
- Knowledge of relevant town, state, and federal laws, regulations, and policies.
- Knowledge of recreation principles and practices, including customer relations and program instruction.
- Skill in customer service, multitasking, and managing conflicting priorities under deadlines.
- Skill in verbal and written communication, including issuing and following clear instructions.
- Skill in basic housekeeping and use of general cleaning equipment/supplies.
- Skill in operating computers, office equipment, and small/light tools.
- Ability to safely ice skate for extended periods (required for Discovery Park Ice Trail).
- Ability to facilitate group activities and establish effective relationships with coworkers, supervisors, and the public.
- Ability to read and interpret safety rules, operating instructions, and procedure manuals.
- Ability to work independently, analyze situations, and adopt effective courses of action.
- Willingness to learn, implement, and adapt to Departmental/Divisional policies and evolving procedures.
- Ability to work flexible hours, including weekends, evenings, holidays, and various shifts.
Working Conditions
- Tools & Equipment: Frequent use of general cleaning equipment, supplies, and small hand tools.
- Physical Demands: Regular sitting, standing, walking, talking, handling objects, stooping, kneeling, crouching, or crawling. Occasional reaching, climbing, and balancing. Moderate physical activity with heavy lifting (up to 50 pounds). Requires close and distance vision acuity.
- Environment: Work is frequently performed in a climate-controlled office but may involve exposure to extreme temperatures, wetness/humidity, and high noise levels. May occasionally work with hazardous items (mechanical/electrical equipment, chemicals, or radiant energy).
Pay
Hiring Range: $16.00–$17.48 hourly
Full Salary Range: $16.00–$20.27 hourly
