Recreation Assistant (Range Operations) NF-02.

About the Role

This position involves executing range facility operations, ensuring safety, and providing instruction to patrons. The role requires adherence to installation, local, and federal laws, as well as coordination of range activities and customer interactions.

Responsibilities

• Execute range facility opening, closing, and operating procedures in accordance with applicable laws.
• Instruct patrons on range safety practices and provide general firearm and marksmanship information.
• Ensure proper handling, storage, accountability, and inventory of ammunition, as well as vault security.
• Issue ammunition and range-related accessories to customers, verify identification, and collect fees.
• Direct patrons, schedule range use, conduct safety briefings, and monitor patron activities.
• Coordinate league, competition, and group functions.
• Perform other assigned duties as required.

Requirements

• Direct Deposit and Social Security Card are required.
• Must meet qualification, eligibility, and background requirements for the position.
• A one-year probationary period may be required.
• Position is covered by the 1996 Lautenberg Amendment to the Gun Control Act of 1968.
• Work hours may include weekdays, weekends, holidays, and night duty.
• Must pass a medical examination and be able to lift up to 45 pounds without assistance and heavier loads with assistance.
• Must be at least 21 years old to handle firearms.
• This is a Testing Designated Position (TDP); a negative drug test is required prior to appointment, and incumbent will be subject to random drug testing.
• Must obtain current Installation Range Certification Card, National Rifle Association (NRA) Range Safety Officer Certification, or equivalent within 60 days of entrance on duty.
• This position is dual compensation exempt; both GS and NAF employees (full-time or part-time) are eligible to apply.

Qualifications

Resumes must clearly demonstrate relevant experience, skills, knowledge, and abilities for this position.

• Must have experience in firing range operations and firearm safety, including work experience involving the general public.
• Must possess cashier skills.
• Must be able to obtain current Installation Range Certification Card, NRA Range Safety Officer Certification, or equivalent within 60 days of entrance on duty.

Highly Preferred Qualifications:

• Instructor-level certification(s) in Pistol and/or Rifle from a recognized national governing body (e.g., NSSA, NRA, NACFI).
• Knowledge of Microsoft Office 365 (Word, Excel, etc.).
• Knowledge of the Rectrac System.

Lautenberg Amendment

This position requires compliance with the Gun Control Act of 1968, amended by the Lautenberg Amendment of 1996. Candidates must meet initial and continuing qualifications in the use of firearms. Any person convicted of a misdemeanor crime of domestic violence cannot lawfully possess a firearm or ammunition. Candidates under consideration will be required to certify whether they have ever been convicted of such an offense. False or fraudulent information is criminally punishable by fine or imprisonment.
