Recreation Assistant - Community Recreation

About the role

This position is assigned to the Non-Appropriated Fund (NAF) Community Recreation, and Deployed Support Branch; Fleet Readiness; Commander, Navy Installations command (CNIC); NBK Bangor, and supports the Military's Quality of Life programs.

Responsibilities

  • Perform a variety of duties in support of Morale, Welfare and Recreation Community Recreation program, including special events, recreation information/resources, command events, visiting ships or fleet support, community events, trips, tours, outings, party and picnic rental equipment, resale tickets, bowling, Library, grab-n-go, movies and outdoor recreation.
  • Demonstrate customer service while attending to front counter operations, such as use of point of sale systems, collecting fees/cash handling associated with sale of tickets and rental items, and accountable for accuracy of daily sales transactions.
  • Check Community Recreation equipment and resources in and out, collect any applicable rental fees, inventory items, and complete inspections upon return.
  • Conduct inventory, maintain inventory controls, and maintain equipment for proper accountability of program equipment and resources.
  • Assist in day-to-day administration of multiple programs, including submission of event after-action reports, patronage data collection, and entering program data.
  • Perform community outreach and research and provide information and referral for a variety of recreational opportunities for individuals/families on and off the base.
  • Issue game equipment, perform general housekeeping, and support the bowling program.

Requirements

  • Practical work experience, including direct customer service and handling cash utilizing a point-of-sale system.
  • Ability to work irregular hours, including early shifts, late shifts, evenings, weekends, and holidays.
  • Valid state driver's license and ability to drive a 15-passenger van.
  • Pass all applicable records and background checks.
  • Obtain and maintain certifications within 90 days of hire, including Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) and First Aid Certification, Food Handler certification, and Alcohol Safety Training.

Qualifications

  • Knowledge of the goals, principles, techniques, and procedures used in organizing, planning, and conducting leisure time activities.
  • Knowledge of the Navy MWR mission, the scope of Community Recreation activities, and their suitability for individuals, groups, ages, and interests.
  • Knowledge of MWR policies, rules, and regulations related to the assigned work area.
  • Knowledge of cash handling procedures and basic arithmetic to compute charges, disperse change accurately, and prepare reports.
  • Skill in the use of Microsoft Office Programs and others as they relate to fitness, sports, and aquatics programming.
  • Skill in planning and carrying out an enhanced program in the recreation specialty area that meets the needs of the participating community.
  • Skill in providing excellent customer service obtained through prior experience and training.
  • Ability to competently and independently carry out day-to-day recreation operations.
  • Ability to organize, plan, administer special events and entertainment activities.
  • Ability to maintain records, compile and organize data for reports.
  • Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
