About the Role
Performs a variety of duties in support of the Morale, Welfare, and Recreation (MWR) Community Recreation program, including special events, recreation information/resources, command events, visiting ships or fleet support, community events, trips, tours, outings, party and picnic rental equipment, resale tickets, recreational green space management, bowling, Library, Liberty, grab-n-go, movies, and outdoor recreation.
Responsibilities
- Provides customer service, information, and support for Community Recreation programs and activities, including checking patron eligibility, providing program information, opening/closing facilities, restocking supplies, and preparing snack bar or retail items.
- Collects fees for tickets, retail/rental items, classes, trips, and other programs using Point of Sale (POS) systems and completes Daily Activity Reports (DAR).
- Processes customer Internet registrations, event sign-ups, and initial log-ins.
- Manages check-in/check-out of recreation equipment, collects rental fees, conducts inspections, and notifies supervisors of damage or loss.
- Conducts inventory and maintains accountability for program equipment, resources, and retail goods.
- Assists in administering workshops, clinics, and events (e.g., camping, cycling, sailing, skiing, hiking, water sports) and provides recreation experiences via day/weekend trips.
- Supports day-to-day program administration, including after-action reports, patronage data collection, and program metrics.
- Performs administrative duties using software for inventory tracking, patron usage, and program standards.
- Assists with recruitment, training, and scheduling of Community Recreation staff.
- Plans, coordinates, publicizes, and executes MWR programs and special events, including entertainment and promotion scheduling.
- Updates electronic and multimedia support tools and promotes MWR facilities/events through base outreach.
- Promotes recreational E-reading resources via the MWR Library Program.
- Develops partnerships with on- and off-base organizations (e.g., park districts, clubs) to support MWR programs.
- Performs community outreach to build contacts and assists in creating proposals, agreements, and follow-ups.
- Researches and provides information on recreational opportunities for individuals/families on and off base.
- Adheres to NAVMED P-5010 sanitation requirements and initiates maintenance trouble calls for equipment/facility issues.
- Supports event setup and breakdown and performs other assigned duties.
Requirements
- Must pass all applicable records and background checks.
- Must successfully pass the E-Verify employment verification check.
- Must have a valid driver’s license and maintain it to transport patrons off-base.
- Must be CARE trained, hold EFR or CPR certification, and obtain a Food Handler certification within 90 days of placement.
- Starting May 7, 2025, non-affiliated individuals must present a REAL ID-compliant driver’s license or acceptable ID for base access.
Qualifications
- Combination of experience in customer service and/or recreation activity-based functions.
- Ability to organize, plan, and administer special events and entertainment activities.
- Must work independently, make sound decisions, and communicate effectively orally and in writing.
- Knowledge of goals, principles, techniques, and procedures for organizing leisure activities.
- Understanding of the Navy MWR mission and the scope of Community Recreation activities for diverse groups.
- Familiarity with recreation activity functions, procedures, and operations.
- Strong customer service skills.
- Ability to maintain records, compile data for reports, and perform research on recreation topics.
- Ability to follow oral and written instructions.
- Proficiency with computers, office procedures, and print production.
Education
This position does not have a positive education requirement.
Salary is dependent on experience and/or education.
