General Purpose

Performs a variety of routine duties as needed to ensure the success of scheduled events, recreation and arts programs, games, and competitions for either youth or adult participants.

Supervision Received

Works under the general supervision of the Recreation & Arts Supervisor(s) or the Recreation and Arts Site Supervisor(s).

Supervision Exercised

None.

Examples Of Duties

  • Attends regularly scheduled events, games, programs, or departmental training to ensure efficient operations;
  • Sets up equipment and ensures availability of program resources;
  • Serves as official departmental representative;
  • Mediates disputes between players, spectators, participants, and officials;
  • Controls the game or event by enforcing established rules, regulations, and requirements.

Performing the Duties of Umpire or Official

  • Performs the duties of umpire or official;
  • Performs as official scorekeeper;
  • Aids in making final determinations related to winning teams;
  • Aids in field preparation and maintenance as necessary;
  • Ensures proper maintenance of equipment and recreation facilities.

Provides Direct Leadership to Participants

  • Enrolls participants in general recreation activities or arts programs;
  • Assists in implementing a variety of recreational activities such as arts and crafts, games, rehearsals, shows, and special events;
  • Assists with theatrical design, including scenic painting, prop construction, etc.

Renders Routine First Aid

  • Renders routine first aid to injured participants.

Scheduled Upkeep and Maintenance

  • Completes required reports and submits them in a timely manner.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Must pass a background check.
  • Must possess the following within three (3) months of hire:
    • CPR and First-Aid Certification from an approved source
    • CDC Concussion Training

Additional Qualifications/Information

  • Some knowledge of the rules and regulations of a variety of sports and recreational activities that are used in a comprehensive community recreation program.
  • Knowledge of the methods and techniques in relation to the arts and culture programs;
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees, various age groups, other organizations, and the public;
  • Communicate effectively, verbally, and in writing.

Work Environment

  • Tasks require a variety of physical activities, generally involving muscular strain, such as walking, standing, stooping, sitting, and reaching.
  • Work requires flexible schedules, including evenings, weekends, and holidays.
