About the Role

This is a training position for a certified Lifeguard. The role works under close supervision with detailed guidance and close review of work. Upon completion of mandatory certifications within 30 calendar days of employment, the incumbent will be noncompetitively reassigned to Recreation Aid (Lifeguard), responsible for lifeguarding guests at an assigned aquatic facility.

Training & Certifications

  • Lifeguarding and First Aid (American Red Cross or nationally recognized equivalent such as Star Guard, YMCA, or ELLIS)
  • American Red Cross CPR for the Professional Rescuer/AED or equivalent (American Heart Association CPR/AED)
  • First Aid
  • Oxygen Administration certification (if facility uses "O2 bottles," must be obtained within two weeks of reporting for duty)

Responsibilities

  • Participate in all required training and obtain mandatory certifications within 30 days of employment
  • Perform lifeguarding duties at an assigned aquatic facility upon certification
  • Follow environmental safeguards and wear personal protective equipment as required
  • Adhere to vision standards (20/40 or better, corrected or uncorrected) to effectively recognize emergencies, incidents, and rule violations
  • Obtain Hepatitis B vaccination series within 24 hours if exposed to infectious disease
  • May be assigned irregular duties, special recreational events, or work during weekends, weekdays, holidays, and nights
  • Comply with Department of Labor Child Labor Laws if under 15 years old

Requirements

  • Direct Deposit and Social Security Card are required
  • Must meet qualification, eligibility, and background requirements for the position
  • A one-year probationary period may be required
  • Must satisfactorily complete an employment verification (E-Verify) check
  • Failure to complete required certifications will result in removal from employment
  • Subject to a Tier 1 background investigation and additional checks if working with children
  • Must have a current health assessment documenting good physical health and freedom from communicable disease per Army Policy
  • Must be able to swim and participate in lifeguard certifications
  • Continuous exposure to sun, high temperatures, and humidity
