Recreation/Activity Aide

Duties

  • Plan, develop, and lead engaging recreation programs tailored to residents' interests, abilities, and needs.
  • Create and maintain monthly activity calendars that reflect variety and innovation.
  • Document participation and progress accurately using SigmaCare, PointClickCare, or similar documentation systems.
  • Collaborate with interdisciplinary team members to support resident well-being and individualized care plans.
  • Ensure compliance with regulatory standards while promoting a positive, inclusive environment.
  • Versatile in cooking/baking, singing, dancing, arts & crafts, and technology to provide a wide range of activities.
  • Design & Implement recreational programs for Residents.
  • Work directly with Residents on units, without direct supervision.
  • Organize and obtain supplies and equipment as requested.
  • Assist recreation specialists & set up program areas as needed.
  • Keep daily attendance and document residents’ participation in activities.
  • Assist residents to program location and return residents to appropriate units.
  • Communicate related information to other individuals directly involved in Resident care.
  • Be familiar with established emergency procedures.

Requirements

  • Must be upbeat, energetic, enthusiastic, and have a caring personality.
  • Enjoy working with the elderly.
  • Experience with recreation therapy/activities a plus.
  • High school diploma/equivalent Strong computer skills necessary.
  • Ability to work effectively as a team member.
  • Ability to multi-task.
  • Experience working with older adults, preferably in a skilled nursing or long-term care setting.
  • Certification in dementia care strongly preferred.
  • Knowledge of person-centered care philosophy.
  • Proficiency in electronic medical record systems such as SigmaCare or PointClickCare.
  • Strong organizational skills and the ability to create innovative and engaging calendars/programs.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
