About the role
The Nebraska Department of Correctional Services (NDCS) is seeking a high-performing Records Manager II to join a dedicated team responsible for managing complex sentencing and legal documentation for an incarcerated population of over 5,800 individuals. You’ll serve as a vital role in conducting rigorous reviews of criminal histories, sentencing orders, parole documentation, and statutory criteria under Nebraska law. Responsibilities
- Sentence Calculation & Compliance: Research and respond to inquiries regarding inmate sentence structures, accurately applying good time, consecutive/concurrent terms, jail time credit, mandatory minimums, post-release supervision, and parole eligibility while adhering to state/federal laws and confidentiality mandates.
- Records Auditing & Data Quality: Audit institutional and critical document files, review facility staff data entries to ensure proper utilization of correctional tracking systems, and compile monthly reports, meeting minutes, and operational memorandums.
- Interagency & Public Communication: Serve as a primary point of contact for inquiries from agency teammates, court personnel, attorneys, law enforcement, other government entities, public officials, the general public, and crime victims regarding incarcerated individual records.
- Operational Support & Training: Assist with training records personnel, provide operational support for admissions, releases, and parole functions, and coordinate with the Records Administrator to provide administrative leave coverage as needed.
Requirements
- Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in related field plus one year experience in Records Management including supervisory responsibilities, OR
- Associate’s degree in related field plus three years’ experience in Records Management and one year supervisory responsibilities, OR
- Five years’ experience in Records Management and one year supervisory responsibilities.
- Preferred Qualifications: Prior work experience in a criminal justice agency with math computations, research techniques, or with managing legal documentation.
- Valid driver’s license is required.
- Applicants accepting a job offer must pass the following pre-employment exams in this order: medical exam, and at a randomly announced time, pass a drug test. Once at the Staff Training Academy must successfully complete the fully paid NE Corrections Training Program.
