Position Description

Monitoring Field Technicians are responsible for collecting data to evaluate the progress of reclamation and document site conditions on lands disturbed by oil and gas development in high desert and sagebrush steppe ecosystems in south-central Wyoming.

Duties

  • Conducting reclamation monitoring and stormwater inspections following standardized and site-specific protocols.
  • Accurately completing vegetation assessments, stormwater inspections, and additional required forms using a tablet.
  • Maintaining accurate logs to ensure accurate tracking of project completion.
  • Navigating with and mapping features using ArcGIS Field Maps.
  • Willingness to assist in other projects as needed (weed control, stormwater maintenance, soil sampling, etc.).

Qualifications

  • Minimum of two years of undergraduate coursework completed; majors or degrees in natural resource–related fields (e.g., environmental science, biology, botany, rangeland management, ecology, or related discipline).
  • Field experience or coursework in western plant identification including grasses.
  • Familiarity with the major plant families, and flora common to high desert and sagebrush steppe ecosystems.
  • A commitment to High Standards in Safety.
  • A positive attitude and ability to work well as part of a team.
  • Ability to participate in pre-employment drug and alcohol testing.
  • Ability to work in adverse weather conditions.
  • Experience following established field protocols to conduct sampling and field data collection.
  • Experience with data entry and management using electronic devices.
  • Experience driving 4WD trucks, especially on rough and unmaintained roads.
  • Valid driver’s license and clean driving record.
