Receptionist/Tutor
About the role
Under general supervision, serves as cross-functional clerical support for the SOUL team. Responds to questions and/or directs to appropriate staff member or program. Ensures the front desk operates smoothly and efficiently. Provides tutoring services to assigned students. Assists in the fulfillment of the Organization’s vision and mission.
Responsibilities
- Provide daily tutoring services to students on a pre-arranged schedule.
- Maintain records of tutoring hours.
- Collaborate with SOUL faculty to provide support in all areas of instruction.
- Answer phones, welcome visitors, answer questions as able, provide requested information, and/or direct to appropriate team members or programs as needed.
- Maintain professional demeanor in all interactions with employees, students, and the public at large.
- Maintain the highest level of confidentiality at all times, including but not limited to student records and other sensitive information.
- Travel for work-related business using reliable transportation.
- Maintain regular attendance and punctuality.
- Work evenings and weekends as required.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- High school diploma or GED. Bachelor’s degree preferred.
- Minimum of two (2) years of experience working with high school students and the public.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and related business software.
- Effective presentation, written, and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to multi-task and prioritize work in a high-volume, fast-paced work environment while meeting established deadlines.
- Proven ability to work collaboratively with others.
- Ability to display discretion and insight when dealing with others.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills that contribute to a respectful and collaborative work environment.
- Bilingual English/Spanish or other secondary language preferred based on the needs of the clients and population served.
- Ability to plan, prioritize, and organize work effectively.
- Work effectively with diverse individuals.
- Work in a fast-paced environment.
- Work independently and be a self-starter.
- Establish and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers, employees, and the public.
- Take direction from supervisory staff.
- Willing to work non-traditional hours and days to meet the needs of this position.
- Maintain a valid California driver’s license, reliable transportation, and auto insurance in compliance with state law, and meet the organization’s insurance requirements for operating organization vehicles.

- Work is performed largely in an office environment. The noise level in the work environment is usually low to moderate. Temperatures are usually controlled and moderate.
