About the role
The MSC Clinic Receptionist/Surgery Scheduler is responsible for all aspects of scheduling inpatient and outpatient surgeries, daily receptionist-assigned tasks, and supporting the Practice Lead or Clinic Manager with clinic clerical and administrative duties.
Responsibilities
- Reviews daily physician schedules for appropriate visit lengths and types, and works with front office staff to increase patient access.
- Schedules patient appointments, including consults, follow-ups, post-ops, clinical procedures, and more.
- Answers incoming patient calls, as well as returns calls, regarding appointments, medication refills, surgery questions, medical records, and others.
- Intakes incoming external referrals; registering new patients, scanning referral, follow-up on missing medical records.
- Ensures accurate completion of medical record requests.
- Performs front office and surgery scheduling duties.
- Accurately maintains Electronic Medical Records (EMR).
- Monitors and manages charge capture and registration work queues allocated to clinic.
- Enters data into the computer as needed to maintain office and patient records.
- Provides the patient with preparation instructions pertinent to their service.
- Assists with insurance company requests and obtains authorization; documents interactions in the EMR, including person(s) spoken to, outcome, and any authorization numbers.
- Follows up with providers and patients regarding denied authorizations or requests for additional information.
- Reads and interprets provider notes to assist with obtaining authorizations.
- Schedules peer-to-peer reviews for denied authorizations, follows up with insurance companies on results.
- Coordinates and schedules surgeries as designated by MSC physicians.
- Completes surgery processes and routes all paperwork as required to meet physician and facility requirements.
- Interacts with patients, physicians, and hospital staff providing accurate, timely, and responsive information.
- Communicates regularly with authorizations team and works as a liaison to physicians, staff, patients, and others for the completion of authorizations.
- Completes all tasks daily as assigned.

Requirements
- 3 or more years of relevant experience.
- Knowledge of medical terminology, as well as familiarity with medical documents and medical chart components.
- Epic proficiency.
- Knowledge of insurance payors with the ability to review and explain benefits.
- Ability to prioritize responsibilities.
- Ability to multi-task efficiently and effectively.
- Accuracy and attention to detail.
- Effective interpersonal and teamwork skills.
- Sound judgment and problem-solving ability.
- Flexibility to adapt to new and changing situations and duties to meet patient needs.
- Willingness to be trained on-the-job in duties not previously learned.
- Experience as a surgery scheduler.
Pay
$28.65/hour + DOE
