About the role
The Receptionist Registrar will treat patients warmly and empathetically on the phone and in person, welcoming patients positively as they arrive for various types of appointments.
Responsibilities
- Streamline patient flow by prioritizing patients on arrival according to their scheduled (or unscheduled) appointments
- Screen patients/visitors and promptly notify appropriate personnel when required
- Perform check-out process upon appointment completion
- Handle pre and full registration of patients, obtaining required information to properly register them into the hospital's electronic medical record system (EMR) according to protocol established by the Admitting Department
- Obtain insurance referrals, prescription referrals, copayments, medical record release form and necessary signatures for consent forms
- Verify and scan photo identification and insurance cards
- Understand and implement downtime procedures should they occur during any point of the registration process
- Advise patients of their right to financial counseling and obtain required documentation
- Maintain current knowledge of basic billing practices of the Hospital/department to answer questions or direct them to appropriate hospital staff members, by attending routine billing/registration hospital meetings
- Assist patients with completion of all necessary forms and documentation, review registration documents with all new patients, copy insurance and ID per protocol
- Assist clinical staff with chart prep and collate all incoming records via fax, paper, and electronic media
Requirements
- Excellent communication skills for effective and courteous interaction with a diverse group of patients, hospital personnel, physicians and their staff, outside offices, etc.
- Bilingual ability preferred
- Good office and organizational skills
- 2-3 years' experience in an office and patient/customer environment
- Computer expertise with knowledge of word processing and database software
- Skills with Microsoft Word and Excel of particular importance
- Ability to project a positive image through interactions with patients and their families, outside institutions, physicians and other Hospital departments and staff
- Attention to detail and computer accuracy as pertains to data entry and patient scheduling
Pay
Salary Range: 17.75 - 24.73 USD
