Under direct supervision, monitors receipt of requisitions for all diagnostic imaging procedures and forwards appropriately; greets patients for diagnostic imaging; obtains completed patient history form and relays to technical staff.
Responsibilities
- Greet and communicate with patients in a friendly, confident, and courteous manner conducive to a personalized patient care environment; attempt to allay patients' anxieties, fears, and concerns regarding procedures.
- Receive telephone requests from patients, nursing, and other clinical personnel; respond or forward telephone requests as appropriate.
- Collect, document, and correlate clinical patient history pertinent to the procedure being scheduled; transcribe physician orders and other pertinent information into the Radiology Information System.
- Inform waiting patients of important changes in departmental operations that adversely affect service and/or wait times; coordinate release of patients awaiting immediate interpretation of their procedure.
- Notify supervisor or designee of significant delays or operational problems; refer problem situations and complaints to supervisor.
- Receive, prioritize, and relay incoming phone messages to various subsections and personnel within the diagnostic imaging department; operate the departmental paging system.
- Rotate through all reception stations within the department on a regular basis.
- Demonstrate knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to provide care and/or service appropriate to age groups served.
- Demonstrate knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to provide culturally sensitive care and/or service.
- Maintain adequate levels of all process supplies and forms.
- Gather, analyze, compile, and record data and information for reports and studies.
- Operate standard office equipment.
- Perform other duties and accept responsibility as assigned.
Requirements
- Minimum six months experience as a receptionist or in a related field (e.g., clerical experience).
- High school diploma; or equivalent combination of education (lesser) and experience may be considered in lieu of requirements.
- Demonstrated knowledge of and skill in adaptability, customer service, detail-oriented tasks, initiative, interpersonal relations, oral communication, problem solving, teamwork, and written communication.
- Demonstrated knowledge of and skill in word processing, spreadsheet, and database PC applications.
- Ability to talk to co-workers, customers, outside vendors, and on the telephone.
- Proficiency in reading, writing, speaking, and understanding English.
- Ability to follow and give instructions.
- Mathematical ability, attention to detail (e.g., organization, prioritization, proofing), concentration, and alertness.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in a diagnostic imaging function.
- Demonstrated knowledge or training in medical terminology.
- Post-high school coursework in office procedures or teaching.
Pay
$25.87 - $25.87 per hour
