We Are Hiring

Alpha is hiring a Reading Specialist to join our team. The position offers a competitive salary of $100,000/year, paid weekly, with comprehensive benefits including health, dental, and vision coverage. The ideal candidate will work 40 hours per week, five days a week, at one of our Alpha campuses, with relocation assistance provided.

Responsibilities

  • Run short structured-literacy workshops with two to four students, diagnosing phonics or decoding gaps from running records and fluency probes, and teaching a sequence you design for it.
  • Coach students through app-based core learning, identifying those who have stalled and helping them unstick.
  • Lead morning launch, life-skills workshops, and check-chart activities that keep six-year-olds moving throughout the day.
  • Stay with your students through lunch, recess, and closing, meeting challenges with a plan tailored to each individual child.
  • Drive students to their weekly app goals using school currency, leaderboards, and gamification appropriate for their age.

Requirements

  • Willing to work on-site at one of the listed campuses with relocation support.
  • At least 3 years of experience working directly with children ages 4-9, including at least 2 years of that experience teaching reading in grades K-3 within the last 5 years.
  • Completed structured-literacy training or a master's in reading/literacy.
  • Bachelor's degree in any subject, with a teaching certificate not required.
  • Comfortable spending about 90% of your day guiding students through app-based learning, workshops, and campus routines, and 10% on reading sessions.
  • Willing to work with all K-3 students, not just struggling readers.
  • Legally authorized to work in the US without visa sponsorship.

Nice-to-Have Requirements

  • Can keep a room of six-year-olds engaged with nothing but your energy and a good activity.
  • Experience with reading platforms (Amira, Lexia, i-Ready) or diagnostic assessments (DRA, DIBELS, AIMSweb).
  • Can name a specific child whose decoding you fixed and describe how you did it.
  • Experience working in a non-traditional school model such as charter, micro-school, Montessori, or hybrid.
