Reading Interventionist and English Teacher, 1.0 FTE

About the role
This is a 1.0 FTE continuing contract position for a Reading Interventionist (.6 FTE) and English Language Arts Teacher (.4 FTE) at Alderwood Middle School, beginning with the 2026-27 school year. Preference will be given to candidates who are Bilingual and currently hold an ELL, ESOL, or Bilingual endorsement. Required training includes:
- LETRS training (offered by the Title/LAP Department) unless already completed.
- SIOP and GLAD training (offered by the Multilingual Education Department) for all new employees unless previously completed. Incomplete training must be finished within the first year of employment.
Reading Interventionists work directly with students, teachers, and Title I/LAP program staff to provide intervention and expertise in literacy. Responsibilities include delivering small-group structured literacy intervention, coordinating literacy assessments, analyzing and reporting data, organizing intervention groups, monitoring progress, and communicating with classroom teachers and families.
Responsibilities
- Coordinate, manage, schedule, and provide targeted reading intervention to meet student needs.
- Collaborate with teachers, administrators, and families to identify best practices for individual and small groups of students.
- Follow district guidelines for reading intervention and use adopted curriculum.
- Coordinate literacy screening tools and related progress monitoring plans.
- Identify students eligible for intervention using district Decision Rules.
- Assist student support and MTSS teams in analyzing and interpreting assessment data.
- Conduct frequent progress monitoring with designated district screeners and diagnostic assessments.
- Maintain data-based documentation to evaluate intervention effectiveness.
- Provide regular communication with teachers, administration, and families regarding student reading progress.
- Attend required literacy intervention training, district job-alike meetings, and staff meetings.
Requirements
- Washington State Teaching Certificate with an endorsement in English Language Arts.
- Endorsement in Reading or experience teaching in a structured literacy program or providing intervention support to students needing extra help in literacy.
Pay
2025-26 Salary Schedule Range: $83,305 through $148,226 (2026-27 Salary Schedule not yet finalized). Placement on the salary schedule is determined by FTE and official documentation verifying Educational Level and Certificated Work Experience. Salary will be prorated for less than a full year and/or FTE.

- Washington state health insurance coverage (SEBB) and retirement package. Eligibility for health insurance requires at least 630 compensated hours per school year (September 1 through August 31). For the 2026-27 school year, a .5 FTE continuing contract position meets this threshold. Non-continuing contract eligibility is determined at hire.

- Retirement eligibility requires working at least 70 hours per month for 5 months during the school year. A .6 FTE (continuing or non-continuing) meets this threshold.
