Reading Intervention Tutor and/or Math Intervention Tutor
About the role
The Intervention Tutor supports students, teachers, and other staff to create a caring and safe environment while assisting in activities to improve students’ academic skills in reading and math. The individual communicates, listens, and works well with others in a team environment, assisting staff in implementing a quality educational program and developing positive relationships with students and their parents. The Intervention Tutor observes and documents student progress, relaying information to teachers and administration, and implements developmentally appropriate academic activities based on needs under the direction of teachers, principals, or other designees.
Responsibilities
- Work collaboratively with district administrators to establish appropriate intervention programs for participating students.
- Create a positive learning environment while delivering intended reading, math, or social intervention (with fidelity) in targeted small groups of students in a classroom or online setting.
- Establish meaningful connections with referred children to reduce problematic behavior and improve their behavior, educational performance, and social relationships.
- Participate as a member of the Building Multi-Tiered System of Supports.
- Actively participate in professional development activities, staff meetings, and trainings as requested by building/district administrators.
- Administer progress monitoring assessments to targeted students, provide feedback, communicate academic progress to stakeholders, and assist in maintaining student records.
- Assist with materials development, lesson planning, organization, distribution, and use.
- Work in collaboration with classroom teachers, PPSC Coaches, instructional coaches, CIA coordinators, and other instructional aides.
- Conduct self in a positive, professional manner while maintaining confidentiality of students and staff.
- Be flexible and willing to complete other duties as assigned by the principal or other administrators.
Qualifications
- Elementary Teaching Certificate (preferred).
- Associates Degree or equivalent (60 college credits).
- Demonstrated success as a collaborator and team player.
- Proficiency in math and reading.
- Comfort with using technology.
- Experience counseling students (preferred).
- Language Arts (BX) or Math (EX) Endorsement (preferred).
Skills
- Ability to read, interpret, and write routine reports and correspondence.
- Ability to speak effectively before groups of students, employees, or organizations.
- Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, proportions, and percentages.
- Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
Physical Demands
The employee is regularly required to sit, stand, communicate, and talk or hear. Frequently required to walk, use fingers, tools, or controls. Occasionally required to stand and reach with hands and arms. Specific vision abilities required include close vision, color vision, and depth perception.
Work Environment
The work environment is usually quiet, though the employee is continuously required to interact with the public and other staff.
