About the role

Learning Atrium Inc., a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, is seeking passionate, patient coaches to work one-on-one with elementary students who need assistance with reading and spelling on the West-side of Madison. Successful candidates will be trained to deliver an Orton-Gillingham based program, providing explicit reading instruction to bring students up to grade level. Qualified applicants must have a great love for children and the ability to hear and break apart sounds well enough to guide students toward success.

Responsibilities

  • Deliver structured literacy instruction using Orton-Gillingham methods on a one-on-one basis
  • Coach and guide students in reading and spelling to improve their skills to grade level
  • Work with youth and families from diverse backgrounds
  • Assist at least one student either before or after school hours
  • Support students during summer months (preferred)
  • Provide tools and guidance to help students excel in learning
  • Support parents and teachers in understanding how to aid dyslexic learners at home and in the classroom

Requirements

  • Empowering and coaching mentality
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Experience using iPads, computers, and other technology
  • Passion for helping and motivating children to reach their potential
  • Patience, positivity, and humility as a guide
  • Ability to work independently and with flexible hours
  • Bachelor’s degree preferred but not required
  • Experience working with children preferred
  • Coordination and administration skills preferred
  • Willingness to undergo a background check and complete Virtus training

Schedule

  • 30-37 hours per week, primarily mornings, Monday through Friday during school days
  • Must be available to assist at least one student before or after school hours
  • Preference given to candidates available for multiple students outside regular hours and during summer months
