About the role
Mission Support and Test Services, LLC (MSTS) is a limited liability company consisting of Honeywell International Inc., Jacobs Engineering Group Inc., and HII Nuclear Inc. We manage and operate the Nevada National Security Site (NNSS) for the U.S. National Nuclear Security Administration (NNSA).
Responsibilities
- Perform radiological surveys and monitor radiological conditions and work practices utilized by MSTS and/or subcontractors in assigned areas.
- Mentor junior staff in selected area(s) of specialty.
- Assigned areas include U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) properties and other locations within the U.S.
- Performs works of moderate complexity.
- Assists in researching, compiling, and analyzing measurement data.
- Participates in developing field operations and reports, designs, approaches, and proposals.
- Implement computer applications used in S/E work.
- Drafts, revises, or reviews technical procedures and documentation.
- Works under general supervision with limited technical direction.
- Executes work in disciplined manner to demonstrate compliance with MSTS policies and procedures and laws, codes, and orders directly applicable to task execution.
- Identifies areas needing improvement and provides approaches to solutions.
- Independent work is reviewed for technical judgement and accuracy.
- May serve as a lead technical support person on teams with well-defined scopes of work.
- Participate in briefings and advise other personnel on radiological conditions and requirements of a particular work situation.
- Ensure generation of records for radiation surveys and other job activities utilize appropriate forms and logbooks, as required.
- Implement stop work authority in a responsible manner when radiological or safety conditions warrant.
- Serve as a member of various emergency response teams with the potential of U.S. and worldwide travel.
- Cover assigned work with other technical personnel as directed.
- Maintain training and qualifications current and attend onsite and offsite training as necessary to maintain competency in the field of radiological control.
- Perform related work as assigned by supervisor.
- Research records of potential radiological sites to determine whether sites are radiologically impacted.
- Ensure that corrective actions taken to mitigate hazards are properly implemented and effective in eliminating unsafe conditions.
- Provide directions for less experienced technicians and monitors the work of technicians and support personnel.
Qualifications
- Associate degree in related field to the position plus at least 5 years’ progressive related experience or high school diploma plus 7 years’ progressive related experience.
- Current knowledge of industry and regulatory standards and criteria pertinent to radiological control are required.
- Ability to work independently or in a team environment on a wide variety of tasks is critical.
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, Adobe Acrobat, and Outlook is required.
- Must be fitted for and qualify for use with various respiratory protection and personal protective equipment.
- Must be able to participate in National Response Asset Deployment activities.
- May be required to participate in the Human Reliability Program (HRP).
- Must be able to qualify within 6 months of start date to the DOE Radiological Control Technician (RCT) standardized core training programs.
- Must be self-motivated and able to complete tasks with minimal supervision.
- Must possess strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to work well as an individual or in a team environment.
- May be requested to perform on call work and must be able to work nonstandard hours when required.
- Basic knowledge of radiation protection principles is required.
- The primary work location will be at the Nevada National Security Site (located 65 miles northwest of Las Vegas, Nevada).
- Work schedule for this position will be 4/10’s, Monday – Thursday (subject to change), overtime may be required.
- Pre-placement physical examination, which includes a drug screen, is required.
