Ramsey County Jail Screening Specialist 2nd Shift

About the role

The 2nd Shift Jail Screening Specialist (12pm‑10pm) conducts interviews and assessments of inmates at the Ramsey County Adult Detention Center, prepares detailed objective reports for the Court, Prosecution, and Defense that include assessed risk level and release‑condition recommendations, assists with releasing individuals to pretrial supervision, provides in‑depth assessments for Diversion eligibility, supports Release Preparation, and holds Delegated Release Authority.

Responsibilities

• Conduct interviews and assessments of inmates.
• Prepare detailed objective reports for the Court, Prosecution, and Defense (risk level, release‑condition recommendations).
• Assist in releasing individuals from custody to pretrial supervision.
• Provide in‑depth assessments to identify candidates for Diversion agreements.
• Support Release Preparation and exercise Delegated Release Authority.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Criminal Justice, Social Work, Psychology, or related human services field.
• Pre‑employment background check conducted by the Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension.
• Valid Minnesota or Wisconsin driver’s license and automobile with insurance required.
• Obtain Certified Pretrial Services Professional certification within six months of employment.
• Ascribe to and champion The Difference Principles.

Skills

• Working knowledge of Microsoft Office (including Outlook, Word, Excel).
• Ability to communicate professionally and accurately, both orally and in writing.
• Organized, attentive to detail, able to multi‑task and work independently.
• Ability to work well with individuals from diverse economic, racial, and ethnic backgrounds.
• Fluency in Spanish/Somali/Hmong (spoken and written) is preferred.
• Experience working with criminal‑justice‑involved clients is preferred.
