About the role

The Roadway Worker in Charge (RWIC) position at RailPros is responsible for providing on-site roadway worker protection, coordinating job sites, and handling various types of On Track Safety tasks.

Responsibilities

  • Provide required jobsite protection on each assignment, error-free and consistent with the rules.
  • Ensure work groups are clear of limits during train movements and grant permission for trains and on-track equipment to proceed.
  • Prepare and submit required electronic forms such as job setup forms, daily work reports, invoices, and other reports as needed.
  • Handle and place signs, derail and other tools and equipment weighing up to 90 pounds, as necessary.
  • Maintain clear communication with RWIC supervisors and managers regarding assignments and schedules.
  • Participate in routine safety classes and qualification training.
  • Contribute to a positive, inclusive, and respectful workplace culture.
  • Adhere to company policies, procedures, and applicable laws and regulations.
  • Perform other duties as assigned or required to meet business needs.

Qualifications

  • A high school diploma or equivalent (GED).
  • A minimum of 2 years of track and/or construction experience.
  • Able to complete required physical demands and tasks.
  • Able to effectively warn roadway workers of approaching trains.
  • Understand on-track safety training and qualification requirements.
  • Proficient in radio procedures for communication between RWIC/EICs and assigned work groups.
  • Proficient in performing job briefings with all roadway workers.
  • Able to place railroad advance warning and stop signs.
  • Able to install a railroad derail and apply locking devices.
  • Proficient in electronic communications including email and text, as well as standard office applications.
