About the role

Pacific Trailer Repair Services is hiring a Union Mechanic to join their team at a Container Storage Facility in Oakland, CA. The facility operates in a recession-proof industry and offers a starting rate of pay commensurate with experience. The position comes with a potential first-year salary of $40,000+. The work location is at 1195A Middle Harbor Rd., Oakland, CA 94105.

Job Duties and Responsibilities

• Inspect and analyze malfunctions in trailers, containers, and chassis to ensure compliance with Federal Highway Administration standards.
• Dismantle, repair, and reassemble landing gears, wheel axles, and brakes, including welding of broken parts.
• Ensure the electrical system is functioning efficiently.
• Accurately and legibly complete work orders and maintain a timely, consistent workflow.
• Wear Personal Protection Equipment (PPE) such as hearing protection, safety toe boots, safety glasses, protective hard hats, and welding leathers & goggles, as needed.
• Maintain a clean and safe work environment.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

• Valid Drivers License and reliable transportation.
• Pass all pre-employment screening requirements (background and drug test).
• Strong problem-solving skills.
• Welding experience is preferred.
• Must hold a Federal Highway Inspection Certificate (preferred).
• DOT certified in FHWA Inspections & Air Brakes (preferred).

Additional Physical Requirements

• Work in an outdoor environment with varying conditions (rain, snow, ice, heat, wind, cold, etc.).
• Travel throughout the yard and transfer station either by walking or driving.
• Physically active.
• Work in a noisy environment.
• May be exposed to hazardous situations.
