Railroad Auto Inspector

Summary/Objective

The Auto Inspector is responsible for verifying the inventory of equipment and autos as well as checking incoming and outgoing equipment for damage. This is an entry-level position where employees will learn everything they need to know to be successful on the job.

Responsibilities

• Inspects Auto units arriving and departing the railroad intermodal facility on train for unit number and damage to the unit.
• Inspects all auto units.
• Works both outdoors in all weather as well as indoors in a professional office environment.
• Verifies the initials and numbers of the units parked on the yard.
• Performs regular chassis checks typically taking approximately 2 hours in all weather conditions outside the vehicle walking on the intermodal ramp checking numbers.
• Wears Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) such as, a safety vest and protective hard hat when outdoors.
• Measures the accuracy of the trailer/container unit verification and the performance of these duties in a safe accident and injury-free manner.
• Aware of units moving in and around the intermodal yard.
• Maintain a safe distance from moving vehicles at all times.
• Takes photographs of the damage and completes necessary paperwork.
• Aware of the office surroundings avoiding slips, trips, and falls.

Qualifications

• Possess a valid Driver's License.
• Pass a 7-year background check and a drug test.
• No GED or High School Diploma is required.
