Railcar Repair Technician

About the Role

Transco Rail Services, part of the global industrial organization Marmon Holdings (backed by Berkshire Hathaway), delivers full-service railcar repair and maintenance through a broad North American network of fixed shops and mobile field service teams. As a Railcar Repair Technician, you will conduct all aspects of repair and maintenance on tank cars, ensuring safety, compliance, and quality while meeting customer expectations.

Responsibilities

• Conduct railcar inspections to ensure compliance and perform repairs as necessary using current repair procedures.
• Meet customer expectations to ensure satisfaction with completed work.
• Complete all necessary invoicing, inspection, and work order documentation accurately.
• Maintain all required certifications and demonstrate strong familiarity with AAR rules and regulations.
• Perform other work-related tasks as assigned.

Requirements

• High school diploma or GED.
• Mechanical aptitude with the ability to problem-solve and make decisions.
• Proficiency in using hand tools (e.g., pipe wrenches, pry bars, wrenches, ratchets) and equipment for chipping/grinding weld slag or spatter.
• Ability to complete basic railcar repairs and inspections.
• Strong customer relations and interpersonal skills; ability to work as part of a team.
• Commitment to working safely and following proper procedures.
• Ability to work in all types of weather conditions.
• Valid Driver’s License.

Physical Requirements

• Ability to stoop for extended periods and routinely transition between kneeling and standing positions.
• Capability to lift up to 50 pounds from ground level.
• Ability to climb ladders and perform work at elevated heights.
• Ability to work in confined spaces and enter through an 18" diameter opening.
• Ability to pass a FIT Test and wear a respirator.
• Must pass a company physical exam, drug screening, and background check.

Pay

Starting pay rate: $24.92 per hour.
