Rail Safety Programs Coordinator

About the role

Join our rail safety team in the Commerce and Compliance Division where you will support the Rail Crossing and State Safety Oversight (SSO) programs in a regulatory and safety-focused environment. You will evaluate the programs and develop priorities and strategies for improved effectiveness, identify and solve operational problems, participate in legislative tracking, recommend policy and rule changes and partner with railroads, rail transit agencies, federal partners, local governments and other ODOT staff.

Responsibilities

• Coordinate and support Rail Crossing and SSO programs, including program activities, projects and regulatory requirements.
• Research, analyze and interpret federal and state laws, rules, regulations and guidance related to rail crossings, rail transit safety and railroad operations.
• Cooky navigation/legal/EEO/scam-warning boilerplate removed.

Qualifications

• Any combination of experience and education equivalent to five years of experience that typically supports the knowledge and skills for the classification specific to safety and compliance.
• A bachelor's degree in business or public administration, behavioral or social sciences, finance, political science or any degree demonstrating the capacity for the knowledge and skills; and two years professional-level evaluative, analytical and planning work specific to safety and compliance.
• Demonstrated ability to evaluate complex information, identify issues and develop practical solutions.
• Strong communication skills with the ability to build effective working relationships with internal and external partners.
• Strong time management skills including the ability to track details and coordinate complex projects.
• Sound judgement and ability to handle sensitive or safety-related matters professionally.

Pay

Non-PERS monthly salary range: $5,527 - $8,568
