About the role

The Lead Rail Bike Guide / Supervisor is a seasonal leadership position responsible for overseeing daily rail bike operations from April through December. This hands-on role provides direct supervision and support to Rail Bike Guides while ensuring the highest levels of safety, guest service, and operational excellence. As a working supervisor, the Lead Rail Bike Guide / Supervisor serves as a role model, problem solver, and safety leader for the operation. In addition to rail bike responsibilities, the Lead Rail Bike Guide / Supervisor assists with train operations and other railroad-related duties during periods when rail bike tours are not running. Two Lead Supervisors will share responsibility for providing leadership coverage for a seven-day-per-week operation.

Schedule

  • Seasonal position operating from April through December.
  • Weekend availability is required and is a condition of employment.
  • Must be available to work Saturdays, Sundays, holidays, and peak tourism periods.
  • Flexible schedule required to support a seven-day-per-week operation.
  • Ability to work opening, closing, and extended shifts as operational needs dictate.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct and lead daily safety meetings and operational briefings.
  • Serve as a role model for professionalism, accountability, and teamwork.
  • Act as a problem solver and make sound operational decisions.
  • Assist with training, coaching, and developing Rail Bike Guides.
  • Perform routine maintenance, inspections, and repairs on rail bikes and equipment.
  • Support train operations when rail bike tours are not operating.
  • Deliver exceptional customer service while maintaining a safe and efficient operation.
  • Promote a positive work environment and uphold all company and safety standards.
  • Handle employee staffing and weekly work scheduling.
  • Lift rail bikes when required, to change direction or storage.
  • Check crossings weekly.
  • Transport money, paper products, and merchandise.
  • Maintain constant communication with employees via radio or cell phone.
  • Make and execute decisions regarding daily operation of the business, including safety checks.
  • Assign work details.
  • Keep operation location clean and neat.
  • Oversee compliance with safety standards for the operation.
  • Solve employee and customer problems.
  • Prepare daily cash drawers if needed.
  • Answer phone and take reservations.
  • Oversee gift display.
  • Assist with necessary repairs on bikes.
  • Help out where needed and when needed.
  • Perform all other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Good verbal communication skills and ability to give direction to staff.
  • Ability to operate a cash register, give correct change, and operate a ticket computer system.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Knowledge of railroad terms, operations, and standards.
  • Prior experience in staff management.
