Radiology Technologist II - Weekend

About the role

Under the direction of the Radiology Director and Manager produces quality diagnostic medical radiographs, including OR, Flouro, Dexa, or EOS, to ensure proper diagnosis and quality patient care.

Responsibilities

  • Produces quality images by using appropriate exposure technique to ensure proper penetration of the area being radiographed.
  • Demonstrates the proper use of metal markers and or placement of markers electronically.
  • Documents an appropriate patient history containing pertinent patient information regarding their condition and including patient limitations.
  • Physician orders are to be written and verified prior to the start of the exam.
  • Performs OR/Surgery cases using C-arms and portable machines efficiently.
  • Supervises and teaches Radiology students exams and procedures as part of their clinical rotation, providing feedback to the Clinical Educator on their performance.
  • Communicates technical information in a manner appropriate for the intended person (patient, co-worker etc.).
  • Responds to changes in the workload using time to departmental advantage.
  • Observes established departmental policies, safety, environmental, and infection control standards including maintaining work area in a clean and orderly condition, adhering to hospital safety and infection control policies, reporting faulty equipment to appropriate persons, using protective equipment as needed, practicing Radiation Safety for patients, self, and co-workers, and wearing radiation dosimetry badge daily.
  • Attends departmental in-services and meetings as instructed by Manager, including appropriate orientations, required in-services, departmental meetings or reads the meeting minutes sent through the MOX system in Meditech, and reviews education poster boards located in the department.
  • Performs other duties as appropriate and needed by supervisors, demonstrating attitude of cooperation and professionalism, displaying initiative and enthusiasm for non-routine or extra duties, and seeking out duties that need to be done without being told to.
  • Practices according to safety and infection control policies including universal precautions, disposing of hazardous wastes per established guidelines, maintaining a safe, clean, comfortable and therapeutic environment, maintaining clutter free environment, keeping conversations and background noise to a minimum, adhering to dress code, reporting risk management concerns, and assuming responsibility for completing all annual mandatory training (Safety/Fire, Blood Borne Pathogen, Hazardous Communication, TB, Department Specific, Age Appropriate Care, HIPAA, assigned .EDU courses).
  • All patients are to be properly identified by checking the patient armband or using 2 unique identifiers (name, date of birth, or SS number) in areas that do not utilize armbands.
  • Works in a constant state of alertness and safe manner.
  • Participates in continuing education, obtaining 24 CE points every 2 years per ASRT regulation and maintaining a good standing rating with the ASRT.
  • Follows the Target 100 Standards, providing service excellence to customers by delivering timely, high quality care in a courteous and respectful manner, demonstrating respect and compassion, following hospital confidentiality policy, recognizing diverse needs of others, demonstrating willingness to work with others to achieve work-related goals, working with other departments, following HIPAA guidelines regarding patient health information, and answering questions in a knowledgeable manner or directing questions to someone who is able to provide answers.
  • Incorporates Quality Improvement into daily work, reviewing departmental QI, QA, & QC monthly during departmental monthly meetings and by reviewing posted information, and providing data/input to Radiology management staff pertaining to current departmental QI Teams projects.
  • Uses Hospital/Radiology Information system according to policy, entering information into the Radiology module correctly and in a timely manner, providing training and direction to co-workers as necessary, moving all completed exams to taken status within 30 minutes of completion to help ensure the 24 hours report turnaround time is met, entering/editing exams as needed, printing consent forms for procedures from Meditech as needed, and checking the internal MOX email system for messages.
  • Provides age-appropriate care to School age (6-12 years), Adolescent (12-18 years), Adult (19-64 years), and Geriatrics (65+ years), demonstrating knowledge and skills of normal growth and development, ability to assess and interpret age specific data to identify patient needs, and utilizing communication skills necessary to interpret age specific response to questions.

Qualifications

  • Graduate of a Radiology Technology program and registry eligible.
  • Two years Radiology Technology experience preferred.
  • BLS required course.
  • State of Work Location: Illinois, Missouri, Oklahoma, Wisconsin Basic Life Support HealthCare Provider (BLS HCP) - American Heart Association (AHA).
  • ARRT-R Radiography - American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT).

  • Ability to move or transfer patients.
  • Ability to deal with strenuous and physical activity daily in lifting, pulling, pushing patients, radiographic equipment cassettes and/or supplies.
