About the role
The role involves performing various patient care duties to produce diagnostic imaging through the operation of radiographic equipment. It requires operating fluoroscopic, portable, and diagnostic equipment as needed, and engaging in additional duties as assigned.
Responsibilities
- Explains safety protocols, exams, and procedures to patients.
- Operates fluoroscopic, portable, and diagnostic equipment as required.
- Works independently and collaborates with a multi-disciplinary team.
- Engages in additional duties as assigned.
- Ensures correct patient and exam selection through patient confirmation and interview, medical record review, and appropriate modifications to documentation.
- Adjusts equipment settings for all exams to ensure automated and manual technical factors are set safely for patient imaging.
- Labeled exams correctly before transmission to PACS and ensures images successfully arrive in PACS.
- Adheres to departmental and hospital policies.
Requirements
- Obtains ARRT Radiography registration and MA licensure and maintains it.
- Maintains site and department competencies and certifications as required.
- Performs required imaging using appropriate equipment according to department protocol and/or Radiologist request.
- Ensures exams are labeled correctly before transmission to PACS, ensuring images successfully arrive in PACS.
- Adheres to all departmental and hospital policies.
Qualifications
- Radiography degree required, with an Associate's Degree preferred.
- ARRT Radiography registration and MA licensure required within 90 days.
- Experience in radiology technology, 0-1 years preferred.
- Knowledge of anatomy, physiology, medical terminology, principles of radiation physics, ALARA, radiographic equipment and positioning.
- Physical capability to lift a minimum of 40 lbs.
- Ability to recognize and respond appropriately to emergency and infection control situations.
- Positive attitude and professional appearance.
- Flexibility and willingness to adapt to operational needs of the department and MGB.
- Board eligible through the American Board of Radiology.
Skills
- Effective interpersonal skills to deal with patients and fellow employees under stress.
- Excellent attention to detail, written, and communication skills; ability to read and write in English.
