About the role

UAB St. Vincent’s Birmingham North Tower Imaging offers a range of imaging services including X-ray, bone density (DEXA), CT, MRI, and ultrasound with a strong focus on specialized breast imaging. The department is unique as the only one at UAB St. Vincent’s that performs invasive breast procedures.

Responsibilities

• To perform radiological procedures under the direction of a radiologist.
• Provide quality images to physicians to aid in the diagnosis of medical problems.
• Prepare and position patients for imaging and select exposure factors accurately.
• Prepare and administer contrast media and medications within the accepted scope of practice and applicable state and federal regulations.
• Observe patient during procedure and report abnormal activity.
• Maintain and monitor protocols and recommend updates or refinements as needed.
• Follow radiation safety procedures and guidelines to prevent patient exposure to unnecessary radiation.
• Ensure prompt submission of high-quality images and documents to PACS.
• Ensure equipment is properly functioning and report potential problems or equipment malfunctions to appropriate personnel.
• Absorb and assist in maintaining a clean and orderly department, including procedure rooms, storage areas, dressing rooms, film storage area, and other areas in the department.
• Position patients and select anatomic and technical parameters accurately.
• May perform bone density scans using DEXA equipment, if applicable.

Requirements

• Licensure / Certification / Registration: BLS Provider obtained within 1 Month (30 days) of hire date or job transfer date required. American Heart Association or American Red Cross accepted.
• Bone Density Certification may be required within 6-months of hire or transfer date (if applicable).
• One or more of the following required:
• Cardiographic Tech credentialed from the Cardiovascular Credentialing International (CCI) obtained prior to hire date or job transfer date.
• Radiologic Technologist specializing in Radiography credentialed from the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) obtained prior to hire date or job transfer date.
• Radiologic Technologist specializing in Sonography credentialed from the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) obtained prior to hire date or job transfer date.
• Medical Sonographer credentialed from the American Registry for Diagnostic Medical Sonography (ARDMS) obtained prior to hire date or job transfer date.

Qualifications

Graduate of an accredited educational program in Radiologic Technology required.

Schedule

Part-time, Monday through Friday, 11am to 4pm. No weekends or holidays.
