General Job Summary

Contributes in the delivery of excellent orthopaedic care in a patient centered environment while focusing on their individual needs.

Essential Job Functions

  • Works under limited supervision and exercises independent judgment and initiative while working under protocols established by orthopaedic Physicians.
  • Communicates and works well in the clinical environment with interaction with patients, fellow workers, physicians and others.
  • Provides compassionate support to patients in distress to allow for utmost dignity.
  • Maintains radiological quality assurance standards.
  • Adheres to the Radiologic Technologist scope of practice per federal/state laws.
  • Complies with HIPAA, OSHA, and safety standards of the organization.
  • Maintains certifications and updates as necessary.
  • Transfers patients with ambulatory issues as needed.
  • Aids in patient personal hygiene needs as warranted.
  • Performs clerical duties such as paperwork, orders, and clinical documentation.
  • Protects patient, self, and other staff from radiation hazards.
  • Cleans, maintains, and makes minor adjustments to radiographic equipment, including determining equipment repairs.
  • Maintains radiographic supplies and orders as necessary.
  • Remains focused on patient interaction while maintaining a high volume of studies.
  • Maintains licenses and certificates as deemed necessary by governing state bodies.
  • Protects the radiologic license of the practice by following mandated requirements for patient care and positioning as well as equipment manipulation.
  • Performs ALARA protection for patients, visitors, employees and physicians of OrthoCincy.
  • Maintains records within the company Electronic Health Record System (EHR) as well as the Picture Archiving and Communication System (PACS).
  • Takes initiative in performing additional tasks that may be necessary or in the best interest of the practice.

Education/Experience

  • Must be certified as a medical radiologic technologist as required by the state.
  • A minimum of an Associate degree in Radiological Technology from an accredited Radiology Technology program.
  • CPR/AED and First Aid certification preferred.

Other Requirements

  • Must be patient care oriented with a team environment focus.
  • Schedules will change as department needs change, including overtime and weekends.
  • Weekly travel between locations may be required.

    • Skilled in identifying equipment problems and correcting or notifying supervisor.

  • Abilities:
    • Ability to lift and position patients for the type of x-ray procedure required.
    • Ability to notice detail in radiological images with differences in shapes and sizes.
    • Ability to apply written instructions and standardized work practices.
    • Ability to evaluate images and make technical changes as needed.
    • Ability to react calmly in emergency or stressful situations.
    • Ability to adapt to clinic functions in a timely manner.
    • Ability to work on a team while maintaining positive and professional relationships.

  • Equipment Operated:
    • Radiological equipment.
  • Work Environment:
    • Radiological unit.
  • Mental/Physical Requirements:
    • Standing and walking 90% of the time.
    • Must be able to use appropriate body mechanics techniques when making necessary patient transfers and helping patients with walking, dressing, etc.
    • Must be able to remain focused and attentive without distractions (i.e. personal devices).
    • There are occasions when kneeling, stooping, bending or reaching may be necessary.
    • Ability to lift 50 pounds.
