Radiology Technician Assistant-Imaging Full Time Days

About the role

This position provides support services to technologists, nurses, physicians, and other healthcare professionals in Imaging Services, playing a pivotal role in coordinating patient flow in the respective imaging departments.

Responsibilities

• Cares for the patient throughout the treatment/procedure according to department and hospital standards of care, age-specific sensitivities, and Patients' First guidelines.
• Provides systems support by preparing procedure rooms for patients prior to their arrival in the department and work area.
• Assists in preparing patients for exams/procedures, including explaining exams, answering basic questions, and demonstrating knowledge of MR Safety if assigned to MR. Escalates detailed clinical questions to clinical staff.
• Follows directions of technologists/nurses to assist in performing exams/procedures on patients.
• Processes CDs as needed.
• Participates in lifting and escorting patients and maintains lift equipment competencies (refer to NMH Safe Patient Handling Policy PC 05.0095).
• Helps coordinate patient care based on departmental imaging protocols.
• Interacts and communicates with clinical and medical staff to coordinate patient flow.
• Reconciles physician orders to correct exam protocol and escalates discrepancies to appropriate clinical staff.
• Prepares all necessary paperwork and information so treatment/procedures may be performed.
• Retrieves physician orders from systems including EPIC, Chartview, and Powerchart.
• Assists in clarifying patient demographic information and verifies accuracy and completeness.
• Monitors the schedule to ensure effective patient flow throughout diagnostic areas and informs coordinators, charge techs, and patients of delays.
• Identifies and obtains required paperwork to start exams.
• Handles outside films appropriately and obtains patient films when requested.
• Recognizes and reports problems to appropriate supervisors.
• Uses scheduling systems, Radnet, and PACS proficiently.
• Monitors stock of supplies, including Radiology Contrast Media, ensuring timely re-ordering, rotation of dated items, and maintaining a clean and orderly environment.
• Uses designated equipment effectively, skillfully, and efficiently.
• Maintains equipment and work area as directed, documenting safety checklists (e.g., contrast warmers, barium refrigerators).
• Follows policies and procedures to contribute to department efficiency.
• Organizes and prioritizes assigned work, scheduling time to accommodate work demands and commitments.
• Provides clerical/technical support as needed and assigned by the Manager.

Requirements

• High School Diploma.
• CPR Certification (BLS).
• Demonstrates computer skills.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
• Strong problem-solving and organizational skills.

Preferred Qualifications

• Previous experience in a healthcare delivery position.
• Bilingual language skills.

Schedule

This is a full-time position, 80 hours per pay period, on the day shift from 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., with rotating weekends and holidays.
