Radiology Tech

About the role

The primary responsibility of this role is to perform routine diagnostic radiology service as required in examinations, care and treatment of patients. Duties include preparing patients for radiographic examinations, positioning patients properly, assisting radiologists and physicians, maintaining supplies, and ensuring compliance with safety protocols.

Responsibilities

• Prepares patient for radiographic examinations; explains procedures prior to testing and answers patient questions relating to ordered exam.
• Selects proper equipment and supplies for patients and provides radiation protection during examinations.
• Positions patients properly according to type of radiological examinations.
• Develops radiological films and sends them to laser printers when PACS is down; follows downtime protocols.
• Maintains supplies in clean and sterile conditions; transports contaminated instruments and devices to Central Processing for proper sterilization.
• Maintains JCACHO standards.
• Instructs and cross-trains new technicians in proper methods and procedures regarding routine diagnostic exams performed in the Radiology department.
• Performs sterile and isolation techniques; follows all OSHA standards.
• Performs various routine radiological diagnostic exams and procedures as assigned by supervisor.
• Maintains continuing education on procedures and techniques in order to perform examinations of high quality in all areas of radiology including routine diagnostic.
• Complies with certification requirements.
• Fulfills ALARA principles.
• Maintains work area in a clean and orderly condition to prevent spread of infection or disease to patients, visitors and personnel.
• Logs off after using computer and is also responsible for verifying pre-certification of insurance for procedures that require it.
• Ensures all completed images are on PACS.
• Demonstrates knowledge and skill necessary to provide care and education appropriate to the age of the patients served.
• May remove oxygen tubing from a wall gauge, attach tubing to an oxygen tank and adjust the flow meter on the tank as ordered by the physician.

Requirements

• Must possess Radiological Technologist license through the West Virginia Board of Radiologic Technologists.
• Registered in Radiography by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT).
• CPR certification.

Qualifications

• One (1) year of imaging experience is preferred.
• Maintains JCACHO standards.
• Performs sterile and isolation techniques; follows all OSHA standards.
• Complies with certification requirements.
• Fulfills ALARA principles.
• Maintains work area in a clean and orderly condition to prevent spread of infection or disease to patients, visitors and personnel.
