About the role

Under the direct supervision of a registered radiologic technologist, perform professional duties involved in a variety of technical procedures including the application of prescribed ionizing radiation for radiologic diagnosis. Provide quality service and positive interactions. Assist physicians and staff as requested in selection of practical application and technical factors. Ensure adherence to hospital and departmental policies and procedures. Patient care assignment may include neonate, pediatric, adolescent, adult, and geriatric age groups.

Responsibilities

• Patient Safety:
  • Follow patient safety-related policies, procedures, and protocols.
  • Demonstrate a proactive approach to patient safety by seeking opportunities to improve through questioning of current policies and processes.
  • Identify and report or correct environmental conditions and/or situations that may put a patient at undue risk.
  • Report potential or actual patient safety concerns, medical errors, and/or near misses in a timely manner.
  • Encourage patients to actively participate in their own care by asking questions and reporting treatment or situations they don’t understand or may “not seem right.”
• Procedures:
  • Perform diagnostic and fluoroscopic radiographic procedures including portable and in the OR; operate imaging equipment, computer, and other assistive devices.
  • Follow prescribed techniques to administer general and specific x-rays; adjust equipment; calculate exposure factors, position and immobilize patients as necessary, use appropriate lead shielding.
  • Observe patient and equipment during procedures; document patient reactions or problems in Tech Comments and report immediately to supervising technologist.
  • Evaluate images for technical qualities and remedies; provide corrective action to improve quality.
• Patient Care & Documentation:
  • Complete and verify all appropriate paperwork involved in exams, patient education, lab results, and patient checklists.
  • Assume care for the physical needs of the patient during examinations and procedures.
  • Assist physicians with the imaging process; follow Radiology Department protocols.
  • Assume responsibility for portions of the quality control programs and provide instruction as required.
• Safety & Supplies:
  • Provide protection to patients, family members, staff, and self in accordance with prescribed radiation safety standards and ALARA.
  • Clean assigned area; maintain stock supply levels through inventory control.
  • Assist in reception and scheduling areas; aid patients and transport them as necessary.
• May be required to float to another work assignment or area.

Requirements

• Education: Completion of the first year of didactic education and clinical training in Radiologic Technology.
• Credentials: CPR for Healthcare/BLS Provider or Professional Rescuers within 30 days of hire.
• Physical Conditions:
  • Heavy Work: Exerting 50 to 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or 25 to 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or 10 to 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects or people.
  • Working conditions involve significant hazards, including chemicals and biohazardous materials, requiring PPE.
  • Tuberculosis testing is completed upon hire and additionally as required.

Pay

Shift differentials: 17% for Weekday Nights, 26% for Weekend Nights, and 15% for Weekend Days.

Compensation for this role is based on a number of factors, including but not limited to experience, education, and other business and organizational considerations.
