Radiology Service Engineer

About the role

The Radiology Service Engineer (RSE2) is responsible for conducting preventive maintenance inspections, troubleshooting, and repairing radiological equipment. They must ensure that the equipment meets manufacturer specifications and is safe for patient care. The role requires a strong understanding of electrical and mechanical components, proficiency in electronic test equipment, and the ability to document all work performed.

Responsibilities

• Conducts preventive maintenance inspections using appropriate productivity & quality measures.
• Completes monthly assigned tasks within the specified timeframe, prioritizing high-risk equipment.
• Recognizes unsafe conditions and notifies appropriate management team members to correct them.
• Works collaboratively with senior technical staff to create and enter PM procedures following manufacturer guidelines.
• Effectively responds to service requests, troubleshoots, and repairs medical equipment within job proficiency level.
• Demonstrates the need to maintain an adequate level of parts on hand to minimize downtime.
• Timely and accurately documents all service requests and repairs in the biomedical equipment database.
• Inspects new devices and equipment with competence appropriate to job proficiency level, including safety and compliance with codes.
• Secures all required device information for the biomedical equipment database.
• Demonstrates the need to have current service and operator manuals on hand for proper servicing of all types of medical equipment.
• Aids in maintaining and fulfilling department/organizational regulatory requirements and goals.
• Complies with system, hospital, and departmental policies and procedures and objectives.
• Reports witnessed violations to appropriate management personnel.
• Demonstrates a thorough knowledge of shop safety, including the use of electronic test equipment.
• Responds to and corrects medical equipment recalls/device alerts from manufacturers and/or FDA.
• Participates in On Call duties after normal working hours, responding to calls within 15 minutes by telephone and reporting to the facility within one hour if required.
• Provides technical instruction to users over the phone to minimize equipment downtime and provide the continuum in patient care, and organizational cost effectiveness.

Requirements

• Minimum AAS degree in Biomedical Engineering, Electronics Engineering Technology, or equivalent work/military experience on radiology equipment.
• 3+ years of experience servicing radiology equipment on more than one vendor and/or modality.
• Can demonstrate proficient use of hand tools, electronic test equipment including oscilloscope, and MS-Office and other computer applications.
• Working knowledge of electricity/electronics, mechanical and electro-mechanical components, and computers and networks.
• Attentive to detail and excellent follow-up with customers. Excellent customer service skills.
• Ability to work under pressure and attend vendor technical training regardless of method or location.
• Valid NJ Driver’s License for occasional travel.

Benefits

• Compensation range: $28.15 - $43.64 per hour.
