About the Role

The Radiology RN is a professional nurse committed to ensuring optimal patient care in the Imaging Services Department. This role involves both direct and indirect patient care, with a focus on maintaining current skills through continuous in-service education and periodic evaluations. The Radiology RN communicates with physicians about changes in patient conditions, including hemodynamic monitoring, and is responsible for safely administering moderate sedation.

Responsibilities

  • Maintains a continuous program of in-service education and skill evaluation to ensure up-to-date quality care.
  • Provides direct and indirect patient care, including hemodynamic monitoring and moderate sedation.
  • Responds quickly and accurately to changes in patient condition.
  • Performs general nursing duties across departments with adequate supervision.
  • Participates in performance improvement and Continuous Quality Improvement (CQI) activities.
  • Approaches patients in a kind, gentle, and friendly manner.
  • Follows the five medication rights to reduce potential for medication errors.
  • Monitors hemodynamic status and interprets results accurately.
  • Performs head-to-toe assessments and reassessments, including pain management.
  • Formulates and revises individualized patient care plans based on radiographic procedures.
  • Develops and implements teaching plans for patients and families, evaluating effectiveness.
  • Demonstrates knowledge of cardiac monitoring, identifies dysrhythmias, and treats per ACLS protocol.
  • Manages fluid and electrolyte balance.
  • Communicates clearly with patients, coworkers, and physicians.
  • Coordinates with other departments for an interdisciplinary approach to patient care.
  • Provides age-appropriate care based on principles of growth and development.
  • Coordinates and supervises patient care, ensuring safe patient positioning.
  • Schedules patient procedures and ensures outpatients receive pre-procedure instructions.
  • Operates and maintains equipment safely and correctly.
  • Treats patients and families with respect and dignity, addressing psychosocial needs.
  • Maintains positive working relationships within and across departments.
  • Handles special equipment and instruments, observing behavioral and physiologic changes due to medications.
  • Prepares and drapes patients correctly for procedures, including sterile setup.
  • Protects patient privacy and sensitivities.
  • Accurately records, handles, and labels specimens.
  • Ensures pre-op checklist is complete before procedures (e.g., H&P, consent, test results).
  • Responds appropriately to patient emergencies or distress.
  • Documents assessments, reassessments, and care concisely and accurately.
  • Communicates lab/imaging reports to surgeons before and during procedures.
  • Performs waived testing (Point-of-Care Testing) per Clinical Laboratory policies.
  • Interprets test results and takes appropriate action.
  • Follows facility guidelines for moderate sedation, including pre- and post-sedation assessments and documentation.
  • Adjusts nursing plan of care based on patient acuity.
  • Performs additional duties as assigned by the department manager.

Requirements

  • Current state Registered Nurse (RN) licensure.
  • Two or more years of recent critical care experience preferred.
  • Current ACLS (Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support) and BLS (Basic Life Support) certification.
  • Completion of the facility’s moderate sedation and basic EKG/arrhythmia-identification education within one year.
