About the Role
Delivers quality nursing care to meet the health, physical, emotional, and educational needs of a patient undergoing a diagnostic or minor radiologic procedure. Plans and provides unique and individualized comfort measures using intuitive and innovative, scientifically based approaches. Fosters an environment aligned with the core mission.
- Assesses patient condition and status by interviewing the patient, performing physical examinations, and continuously monitoring the patient’s condition and ability to tolerate the diagnostic exam.
- Reviews medical history and records, addressing potential problems prior to testing and discussing concerns with the physician before, during, or after the diagnostic exam/procedure.
- Facilitates communication of information to all members of the health team.
- Assists patients and families in understanding the diagnostic exam and alternatives, providing information, interpreting the patient’s condition, and offering coping mechanisms.
- Assesses how much information a patient wants and needs, using vocabulary and approaches that enable comprehension.
- Formulates and documents a discharge plan that maximizes the patient’s ability to continue with all activities of daily living (ADLs) after their exam.
- Mobilizes resources in complex cases to maximize patient control and participation during all aspects of testing.
- Collaborates with radiologists, administrative directors, and modality staff to discuss alternatives to care in preparation for diagnostic exams.
- Develops individualized teaching plans independently, incorporating aspects of cultural diversity specific to the patient as required.
- Confers with radiologists and modality administration/staff regarding special needs of the patient and family upon arrival and discharge.
- Integrates assessment and diagnostic information with intuition to foresee potential age-specific healthcare needs.
- Anticipates deterioration while recognizing the importance of reacting quickly before changes in vital signs and measurable outcomes become evident.
- Thoroughly and accurately documents clinical changes, interventions, and outcomes, both expected and unexpected.
- Ensures handoff communication includes a report on situations most likely to develop and problems awaiting resolution between inpatient and outpatient settings.
- Administers medications accurately and safely, documenting patient records according to the nursing process, ANA Code for Nurses, and Capital Health System Patient Services Division Standards of Practice.
- Performs, teaches, and demonstrates technical skills specific to diagnostic services.
- Proactively identifies issues related to patient education for medication management.
- Participates in unit-based chart reviews and patient services performance improvement activities related to documentation, complications, and clinical outcomes.
- Facilitates appropriate responses from other health team members using clear and convincing rationale.
- Evaluates the quality and appropriateness of care, identifies problems, and initiates and documents improvements.
- Advocates on behalf of the patient using clear and convincing rationale to lead the response or treatment needed to meet patient needs.
- Participates in the evaluation of unit standards of care and identification of actual or potential problems.
- Follows established policies and procedures for attendance, punctuality, and continuing education.
- Utilizes non-productive time efficiently and has not received disciplinary action related to non-productive time.
- Performs other duties as assigned and adapts to changing department demands.
- Displays participation in unit and hospital committees.
Pay
Pay Range: $43.90 - $59.69 per hour.
