About the role
The role involves providing excellent customer service and support to patients, clinicians, and technologists, primarily focusing on answering phones, scheduling appointments, and conducting outreach calls. The position requires a high level of competence in various support roles and aims to improve radiology clinical and clerical operations.
Responsibilities
- Manages patient flow, access, and scheduling for technologists to optimize patient appointment availability.
- Determines urgency and priority of emergent add-on exams.
- Schedules appointments for patients, optimizing patient appointment availability.
- Aids patients with referral processing and communication with other departments.
- Conducts outreach to patients for appropriate follow-up appointments.
- Determines urgency and priority of patient appointments and appropriately schedules exams/procedures.
- Verifies patient insurance coverage, demographic information, and ordering clinicians.
- Makes appointment reminder phone calls as needed.
- Processes patient requests for copies of images/CDs in accordance with Atrius' standard for release of patient information.
- Monitors referral/work queue reports and provides necessary outreach for all open active referrals.
- Closes referrals when appropriate.
- Monitors scheduling requests and schedules appointment requests accordingly.
- Assists with the checkout function, appropriately booking follow-up appointments per department guidelines.
- Performs image sharing functions, including ensuring availability of radiographs for medical appointments, coordinating previous imaging acquisition from other institutions, and assisting in downloading of CD's to patients EMR/PACS.
- Utilizes the Radiology Information System to verify and maintain correct demographic information in PACS.
- Applies department policies for tracking internal and external facility images entering and leaving the department.
- Aids in the communication of results to outside providers by faxing and/or routing per department protocol.
- Maintains the orderliness of the waiting room.
- Assists with training and orientation of new radiology support staff.
- Provides back-up coverage for other support staff as needed.
- Assists in resolving minor patient concerns and complaints as appropriate.
- Accesses only the minimum necessary protected health information (PHI) for the performance of job duties.
- Protects the confidentiality and privacy of all protected health information they access in all its forms (written, verbal, and electronic, etc.) taking reasonable precautions to prohibit unauthorized access.
- Complies with all Atrius Health and departmental privacy policies, procedures, and protocols.
- Follows HIPAA privacy guidelines without deviation when handling protected health information.
Requirements
- High School Diploma / GED
- 6+ months of customer service or healthcare experience
- Basic proficiency with computer applications
Qualifications
- Experience in radiology/imaging department
- Previous experience in a job requiring the ability to multi-task and prioritize activities
- Familiarity with medical terminology
- Electronic medical record (EMR) experience and/or aptitude to master the EMR based on other technology experience
Skills

Pay and Schedule
The hourly pay for this role will range from $16.00 to $29.00 per hour based on full-time employment. We comply with all minimum wage laws as applicable.
Schedule
FT, 36 hrs. Monday - Friday, working day shift. Schedule to be determined by manager upon hire.
