SIGN TECHNICIAN I

About the role

This position serves as an entry level Sign Technician I in the Sign Operations Section (SOS) of the Traffic Operations Division (TOD).

Responsibilities

• Assist with all aspects of sign fabrication including the preparation of flat and extruded aluminum sign blanks for the application of text and silk-screened messages.
• Learn the basics of sign fabrication including applying messages to signs in accordance with state and federal Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices (MUTCD) standards and guidelines.
• Operate equipment such as hydraulic shears, silk screen tables, squeeze roller applicators, corner radius machine, and other hand and power tools.
• Receive close supervision from the Sign Operations Supervisor or his/her designee.
• Maintain a reliable communication link for emergency call back requirements and may be subject to call-in 24 hours a day, as required for sign emergencies.
• Work evenings, nights, and weekends as required.

Qualifications

• Education: Graduation from a standard high school or possession of a high school equivalency certificate.
• Experience: None preferred.
• Preferred Qualifications: Ability to perform basic mathematical calculations, ability to clearly communicate in the English language including reading and writing, ability to lift 75 lbs, ability to stand for extended periods of time, valid Class C motor vehicle operator's license valid in the State of Maryland with less than 4 points.

Pay

The salary range for this position is $24.37 to $36.56 per hour.
